Day 28

Mobilize

How do we turn learnings into action?

Introduction

When you drop a pebble into a still pond, it sets off ripples that grow larger and larger until they span the entire pond. YOU are that pebble. By standing up, speaking out, living your values, and applying the knowledge you have gained during Project Green Challenge, you create a profound impact.

Do not look the other way; do not hesitate. Recognize that the world is hungry for action, not words. Act with courage and vision.

Reflect on Your Journey

Throughout this month, you have seen how every action, no matter how small, has far-reaching effects. Reflect on your own transformation since the start of PGC—through exploration, education, and mindful action. Think about how you have become a changemaker, guiding shifts in your home, on your campus, and within your community. With dedication, intention, and passion for people and the planet, you have already sparked meaningful change.

Next Steps: Applying for PGC 2024 Finals

Now, it’s time to apply for the Project Green Challenge 2024 Finals. To be eligible, you must:

  • Participate in the next three challenge days
  • Submit a complete Climate Action Project (CAP) proposal
  • Be available to travel to the San Francisco Bay Area from November 21–25
  • Meet all other criteria outlined in the PGC Finals Rules

Based on your CAP, PGC accomplishments, creativity, engagement, number of wins, and point totals, up to 14 participants will be selected as PGC Finalists. Finalists will build, refine, and implement their CAPs leading up to April 10, 2025, and will present virtually to judges on April 19, 2025, when the PGC Champion is named.

Developing Your Climate Action Project

A Climate Action Project (CAP) is a plan for transformative change on your campus or in your community. It should address a real-world challenge that resonates with you and impacts people, policy, and/or the planet. Develop an innovative, realistic, and high-impact project centered around climate themes that inspire you.

Criteria for Your CAP

  • Focus: Identify an area of focus from the following PGC themes: food, waste, water, justice, soil, biodiversity, ocean, forests, urban ecology, or energy.
  • Feasibility: Your CAP must be achievable by April 10, 2025. This could be a significant step toward a larger goal. For example, a CAP focused on transitioning to renewable energy might involve developing a proposal, securing school leadership approval, and outlining next steps.
  • Measurable Outcomes: Your CAP must have measurable outcomes, such as the number of participants engaged, pounds of food waste reduced, or miles traveled without fossil fuels.

Applying Ikigai to Your CAP

Before you begin, reflect on the concept of Ikigai:

  • What do you love?
  • What are you good at?
  • What does the world need?
  • What can you be paid for?

At the heart of Ikigai lies what you can best contribute to your CAP. Combine your passion and skills to create a project that benefits us all.

      • What existing skills or experience do you have that will support you in this effort?
      • Who in your network has complementary skills or expertise that could add value?
    • How does this connect to your passion or academic studies?
  3. Draft Your Project Outline:
    • Establish both short-term and long-term goals.
    • Use the S.M.A.R.T. goals framework for structure: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
