OVERVIEW

“Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far reaching effects”.  ~ Dalai Lama

Imagine dropping a tiny pebble into a still pond. What happens? That one small drop sets off a series of ripples that grow larger and larger, and emanate outward until they span the entire pond. You know this by now, of course, you are that pebble. You can have that kind of impact simply by standing up, speaking out, and living a life that you align with your values.

Over the past 26 days, you’ve learned how every action can have an impact, both positive and negative. And these impacts often reach far beyond the original and intended sphere of influence. In PGC, we focus on the power of simple change and mindful actions. Take a minute to consider the transition in your own life since the first day of PGC. How have you changed? Who have you inspired? What have you learned about your inner power to inspire others? How have seen yourself prompt change?

Actions as simple as filling a reusable water bottle, opting for a cup of fair trade coffee, cooking a FLOSN meal, or stepping outside of your comfort zone to propose change to leaders, strangers, and peers in your community have made you bolder. Your actions have likely strengthened your dedication, intention and passion but have also caused a ripple effect. You, just one person, have fueled change all around you.

We’ve already observed significant ripples from each of you. Right now, every action we each take is vital. Here’s something to always remember along your journey, “Many small people in small places doing small things can change the world.” ~Eduardo Galeano

Now, it’s time to unite all of your PGC experiences and actions. Will you continue to create waves going forward? How can you make your voice heard? Will you include others on this powerful journey to change the course of our planet – because together, we are a massive force for good that is unstoppable! Whether you assert your power in support of ethical businesses, become involved in campus sustainability efforts, organize marches for causes you believe in, conduct important research, or use media to communicate powerful ideas. Find your voice and play an important role in propelling our movement forward.

Take note of our partner, Plastics Pollution Coalition (PPC) working toward a plastic free world. Think about this from PPC’s website: Call to action pick up the trash!Imagine if you could do something extraordinary for the planet by simply picking up 10 pieces of litter on your travels”. Add to that, no more straws, opt for reusable bottles, bags and utensils when you’re out and about. Just picture the ripple.

Greener

40 POINTS

Think

The way we journey through our lives all comes back to mindset. If you think you can accomplish something, you can! If you think you are a changemaker, you are! If you lead with intention and purpose – your actions will be far-reaching and powerful. It’s all in how you see yourself.

Challenge

All ripples begin with that single pebble – and you are that pebble. Friends, family, your community have been watching and maybe even participating in your PGC journey. You’ve started a ripple and now it’s time to capture the impact. Today is about being an inspiration for change and witnessing the process.

  • Recruit 3 friends or classmates (not your teammates!). Ask each of them to start their own PGC ripple in the next 24 hours. It can be anything that will contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle, campus or community.  Big or small – what matters is that they take an action and move forward.
    • Ask each of them to send you a photo of their ripple in action.
    • Caption each of the photos telling us about their ripple and impact.

Deliverables

Greenest

60 POINTS

Think

You are the power of one. Today we are giving you time to be bold, think deeply and be fearless. How will you start a ripple that won’t stop until you’ve witnessed its impact?

Challenge

In a few weeks, you’ve become an informed, inspired, and mobilized human. You know so much more than when you started your PGC journey. So, what sort of change do you want to see in the world? It’s time to start looking beyond PGC and thinking about how you can become a true catalyst for change.

We want you to create something that is resonant and impactful, that you could not have dreamed of undertaking on September 30, 2018.

  • Describe your project. What do you want to accomplish?
  • Create a flyer, drawing or poster to launch your project. What would it say? How would you create a buzz, get people interested, mobilize them? What kind of information/materials would you provide?
  • Finally, catapult yourself into a future where your project has been a roaring success. Put yourself into the shoes of future-you and tell us about what you accomplished. It doesn’t have to be a big idea, it just has to be!
  • Post your creative idea on the social media platform of your choice, with a caption for your audience. Tag @TurningGreenOrg, @KleanKanteen @PlasticPollutes and include #PGC2018.

Deliverables

Upload a PDF document with your project plan and include a screenshot of your social media post. Please include your name (or team name), username, email address and school.
