“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” ~Jane Goodall, Primatologist, Author, Activist
Welcome to Day 1 of Project Green Challenge!
Hi PGC 2018 participants. We couldn’t be more excited that you’re embarking on this month-long adventure with us, for you and the planet.
This journey has been designed to change your perspective, shift your worldview, and empower you with the tools to make waves. However you’re feeling — brimming with excitement for what’s to come, curiosity about the unknown, or eagerness to get going, it’s all just as it should be.
Through it all, know this: we’re here with you for the next 30 days.
Every PGC journey is unique. You are all starting from a different place and it’s your diverse perspectives that bring PGC to life. Whether you feel like you’re already living a conscious lifestyle or you have no idea what that even means, know that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.
Before you get started, take a minute to think about your WHY. Why were you inspired to sign up for PGC? What motivated you?
Here at Turning Green, we are inspired by two guiding principles. First, individual and collective action = massive impact. We deeply believe in the power of one to make tangible and actionable change in lives, on campuses, and in communities.
Second, environmental and social justice issues are interconnected; one cannot be resolved without addressing the other. Thus, for many challenges, you will have the opportunity to reflect upon how that day’s topic connects to a social issue and mobilize to act.
We can’t wait for you to be part of this journey.
Let’s get started!
One. It’s a number that’s gotten a bad reputation. Far from the loneliest number, it’s actually the most powerful. Why? Because every movement starts with one. Someone. Even though the state of our planet may feel overwhelming and you might not even know where to start, we deeply believe that one person has the power to impact big, bold, bodacious change.
This is your starting point – Day 1. Read through the content below. Then prepare your response and follow the submission information under “Deliverables.”
Take a few minutes to watch at least 5 of this series of 1-minute videos, “Nature is Speaking”, created by Conservation International and narrated by a variety of celebrities.
Upload your responses in a PDF document. Include answers to the questions above and what time you submitted your entry survey. Please include your name (or team name), username, email address, and school.

PGC is about transformation. But transformation is a process; in order to improve, it’s important to first understand who you are at this moment in your life. That way, at the end of the month, we can look back and see what transformation looks like for you.
Upload a PDF document with your creative presentation (please make sure you make the video public so we can view it), and answers to the questions. Please include your name (or team name), username, email address, and school.

Too often the conversation around environmentalism and change defaults to a myth that our world is devoid of empathy, that somewhere along the way, we’ve lost our ability to connect and work toward the greater good. Let’s try and flip this story and instead, imagine what the world would look like if empathy was the most important value of our time.
Upload your responses in a PDF document. Include your photo, a screenshot of your social media post, and list any responses. Please include your name (or team name), username, email address, and school.
