OVERVIEW

“Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”

~ Robert Kennedy (1925-1968), American Politician

Imagine dropping a tiny pebble into a still pond and watching that one small impact set off a series of ripples that grow larger and larger, emanating outward until, eventually, they have spanned the entire pond. Hopefully you know this by now, but of course, you are that pebble. You can have that kind of impact simply by speaking up, speaking out, and living a life that is aligned with your values.

In the past 25 days, you have learned that every action can have an impact, both positive and negative. And these impacts often reach far beyond the original and intended sphere of influence. In PGC, we focus on the power of simple changes and mindful actions. Take a minute to consider the transition in your own life since the first day of PGC. How have you changed? Who have you inspired? What have you learned about your inner power to inspire others and to prompt change?

Actions as simple as filling a reusable water bottle, opting for a cup of fair trade coffee, cooking a FLOSN meal, or stepping outside of your comfort zone to propose change to leaders, strangers, and peers in your community have made you bolder. Your actions have likely strengthened your dedication, intention and passion but have also caused a ripple effect. You, just one person have fueled change all around you.

Already we’ve seen significant ripple effects from each of you. Take Jordan, a high school student in Iowa who is participating in PGC. As part of the Hemp challenge, Jordan emailed her State Senator, Joni Ernst (R), about bringing hemp to Iowa and guess what? Senator Ernst called her back to discuss how hemp could help her hometown! Conversations like these are how monumental change gets started.

Even in challenging moments, never forget: “Many small people in small places doing small things can change the world.” ~Eduardo Galeano

Now, it’s time to take coalesce all of your PGC experiences and learnings. How can you continue to create waves going forward? How will you make your voice heard? How will you include others with you on this powerful journey to change the course of our planet – because together, we are a massive force for good that is unstoppable. Whether you assert your power in support of ethical businesses, become involved in campus sustainability efforts, organize marches for causes you believe in, conduct important research, or create inspiring art, it is important to find your authentic voice in this movement working toward a safe, healthy, just, and sustainable world.

Take note of our partner, Green America, and their vision. They are working for a world where all people have enough, where all communities are healthy and safe and where the bounty of the earth is preserved for all generations to come.

Think about your vision? If you knew you couldn’t fail, what would you do to change the world?

Greener

40 POINTS

Think

The way we approach our lives always comes back to our mindset. If you think you can accomplish something, you can. If you think you are a changemaker, you are. If you lead with intention and walk your talk – your actions will be far-reaching and powerful. It all comes back to how you see yourself.

Challenge

All ripples begin with that single pebble — and you are that pebble. Friends, family, your community have been watching and maybe even participating in your PGC journey over the past 26 days. You have started a ripple and now it’s time to capture the impact. Today is about being an inspiration for change and witnessing the process.

  • Recruit 3 friends or classmates (not your teammates!). Ask each of them to start their own eco-ripple in the next 24 hours. It can be anything that will contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle, campus or community. Big or small – what matters is that they take an action and move forward.
    • Ask each of them to send you a photo of their ripple in action.
    • Caption each of the photos telling us about their ripple and impact.
    • Pick one photo and caption and post it to the social media platform of your choice. Tag @TurningGreenOrg and include #PGC2017.

Deliverables

Upload a PDF document with your response and photo collage. Include a screenshot of your social media post. Please include your name (or team name), username, email address and school.

Greenest

60 POINTS

Due on 10/30 at 6am PT.

Think

You are the power of one. Today we are giving you time to be bold, think deeply and to be fearless. How will you start a ripple that won’t stop until you’ve witnessed its impact?

Challenge

It’s been 26 days and you’ve become an informed, inspired, and mobilized human. You know so much more than when you started this PGC journey. So, what sort of change do you want to see in the world? It’s time to start looking beyond PGC and thinking about how you can become a true catalyst for change.

We want you to create a project that is deeply resonant and impactful. A project that you could not have dreamed of undertaking on September 30th.

  • Describe your project. What do you want to accomplish? Share your idea.
  • Then create a flyer or poster that would be the kick-off to your project. How would you get people interested? What kind of information would you provide?
  • Finally, catapult yourself into a future where your project has been a roaring success. Tell us how you achieved your goals! Put yourself into the shoes of future-you and tell us all about what you accomplished.
  • Deliverables

Upload a PDF document with your project plan. Please include your name (or team name), username, email address and school.
